Day 3— Learning Goals & Minds On Reflection on punishment using
1. Do you plan to use punishment as a classroom management technique in the classroom? Why or Why Not?
I am not sure about punishment. Instead, I would like to say we need rules to build a community, if they are broken, the consequences should be followed. This is also one way to teach students to be responsible for their own behavior.
Should punishment be used? Well, ideally I will try my best to make the class full of fun so that everybody is interested in and get involved, and automatically the students will be attracted to the topic. Furthermore, it’s not a good idea to punish them, no matter punish them privately or publicly, people will just remember they are punished. A better way is to find the reason and deal with it. But practically it’s too hard to get every single student’s attention, because everyone is different and interested in different topic and style, so I guess sometimes I do need to remind them that they are supposed to do this, not that.
2. If you do plan to use punishment, give 1-3 specific examples of how and when you would use it.
I will not try to embarrass them or control them; instead, I will always try to show my caring, understanding and patience. Something I would like to do is as follows: · Asking the student to eat lunch with the teacher instead of with his/her friends · A warning to the student · A call to parents to discuss the situation and find out why and what to do
3. What will you do when a math concept like "order of operations" is really not that important to learn? How will you sell this topic to the students?
I will relate it to different occupations that use these kinds of concepts as the base and let them understand that although they cannot see the meaning now, they will see it in the future, and they need to be prepared for their future and open a door for themselves
4. Create a very good Minds On activity for your topic worthy of sharing in front of the class
